Late News– This turned out to be our last meeting at the Admiral Baker for the foreseeable future. The facility will no longer offer weekend breakfast service and they will now charge $800 to use a meeting room on the weekend.
Another Excellent Meeting
The San Diego Chapter returned to the Admiral Baker Clubhouse for their May meeting with a very large turnout. The featured speaker was Jesus Benayas, President of the House of Spain. Our Chapter has enjoyed a close relationship with the House of Spain and has supported a number of their activities. Our late Compatriot, Philip Hinshaw, was a member of the HOS and deeply involved in their activities and he is the primary reason we celebrate July 4th at the House of Spain with a manned display as well supplying the HOS with a tri-fold brochure on Spain’s support of our Patriot ancestors and the American Revolution. In keeping with the presentations by speakers we have enjoyed this year, Jesus’s presentation was excellent and informative.
We inducted three new members, Steve Modregon who attended with his wife Tanya, Darrell Monroe who attended with his wife Susan and David Reardon who attended with his parents Chris and Kristine Reardon and his grandmother, Barbara Harden. Kristine Reardon is the daughter of our late compatriot Larry Harden and our Chapter’s Wreaths Across America coordinator. Steve Modregon’s son, Raymond, a West Point Cadet, has also been accepted by SAR for membership however he was unable to attend this meeting. New members were given their SAR new member packet, the SAR rosette and the San Diego Chapter pin by President Peter Fagen and Sargent-at-Arms, Gary Newton.

Chapter President, Peter Fagen, presented a slide show to accompany his talk on his recent visit to the SAR Library & Research facility in Louisville, KY. Chapter Treasurer, Jim McAdory, gave an America 250 presentation on the battle of Cowpens. And our past President, Michael Hirman, provided an update on the upcoming Boston Tea Party reenactment planned for the afternoon of December 16th.
In the past 12 months the San Diego Chapter has enjoyed a steady increase in meeting attendance which now averages over 30 per meeting. For this meeting we had 38 signed up but a few could not attend as planned leaving us with 33 in the room.
Our Next Chapter Activity is on Memorial Day where our Color Guard will fire a 3-round musket volley. A few days later our Color Guard will also march in the La Mesa Flag Day Parade. View our full schedule on our Events page.
