Unlike Ancestry this free app will build your family tree with only minimal information needed from you, typically just one parent. On a computer there is a similar program named Family Search which is also a free service from Ancestry. These programs will search several public genealogy databases to link to your ancestors. Like Ancestry, the information itself should not be taken as absolutely factual however we have found the connections found to be quire accurate. Find the app in the App store on your phone and setup a free account to get started.
There is a feature in the phone app (Family Tree) that lets you find “relatives around me” which has been a big hit at SAR meetings including ours where several SDSAR members have found they are distant cousins.
When you search for this phone app look for the logo shown above as there are quite a few apps that seem to have almost the same name and similar logo. Once you locate and install the app enter your basic information and one of your parents’ information. The app will then attempt to locate your other parent which you will need to confirm but after that it finds the links automatically. Occasionally you may need to add an ancestor so that the app can continue filling in a family line. Once started it can take an hour or more before you tree is populated.
