Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) & Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) Recognition Program

NSCC LogoThe San Diego SAR Chapter annually presents SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medals and Outstanding Citizenship lapel pins, plus certificates, to cadets in Sea Cadet in San Diego County. The SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal recognizes persons whose achievements are noteworthy in their school, community or state. This medal is authorized for presentation to the US Navy Sea Cadet Corps, to an Outstanding Cadet nominated by his/her Commanding Officer. The award is in recognition of the Cadet’s Leadership, Military Bearing, and Excellence of Character, Scholarship, and Citizenship.  Contact our Sea Cadet program coordinator at:  seacadet@sarsandiego.org

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) is a youth program for Americans ages 11 through 17. USNSCC is comprised of two programs. The NSCC program is for young people ages 13 through 17. Also included under the USNSCC umbrella is our junior program the Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC), for young people ages 11 through 13. They have more than 380 units in 48 states, Guam and Puerto Rico. The Corps provides compelling, life-changing programs that instill the values of teamwork, discipline, camaraderie and service through a passionate all-volunteer force and partnerships with the nation’s armed forces.

The Sea Cadet Medal Ribbon Bar contains the blue, buff and white colors of the NSSAR Rosette which are reminiscent of the colors selected by General George Washington for the Continental Line uniform. The Bronze Good Citizenship medal is struck on a circular planchet. The obverse inscription reads “Good Citizenship Medal” and depicts a Minuteman holding a rifle, with a plow and the Liberty Bell in the background. The reverse is inscribed “Our inspiration is from the past, our duty is in the present, our hope is in the future.” The medal is suspended from a drape of the SAR colors. A certificate of recognition accompanies the medal.

Submissions must be made to SDSAR by February 1.

California Outstanding Sea Cadet (NSCC) of the Year.  The California State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (CASSAR) established a CASSAR Outstanding Sea Cadet of the Year award in 2021 and 2022. This award is presented to one cadet throughout the state each year.  The San Diego Chapter submits our Chapters winner to the State Society for consideration for the state level award.  The recipient of the award is selected by the California Society of the Sons of the American Revolution at their annual meeting held in April and the winner will be presented a $1,000 check from CASSAR.  More information is available from our National website which has a ROTC/Sea Cadet information page.

The Outstanding Citizenship Award Lapel Pin is a portrait of a Minuteman with the Sons of the American Revolution encircling the upper half and Outstanding Citizenship Award encircling the lower half. The lapel pin may be presented by a chapter, state society or the National Society to deserving students in recognition of high ideals of character and citizenship.
