The Sons of the American Revolution and the San Diego Chapter would like to formally recognize the military veterans in our chapter. An ideal time to do that is on Veterans Day. In preparation for that day, please contact our 2nd Vice President, Colonel Rob Welch at vp2@sarsandiego.org and let him know if:
- You are not a veteran (so we don’t bug you for a response).
- You are a veteran (peace time counts).
- If you served in a combat zone and if so, which and the dates.
- If you have received any Expeditionary Medal please indicate the operation name and dates.
- If you served during the Viet Nam war era (1955-1975).
- If you been awarded the SAR Military or War Service Medal, Please let us know.
We plan to have a special ceremony in November 2023 and also will list all our veterans in our monthly SAR Digest. Please respond to Rob this month so we can begin our planning.
We, as a patriotic organization honor all who have served and protected that which our ancestors fought so hard and gave up so much. Every veteran in the our Chapter should be recognized with either the War Service Medal or the Military Service Medal. It is very simple to apply for this recognition, just follow the steps below.
- Simply download this form: “Veterans Multi-Corps Recognition Form” and fill in the required information.
- Military “Proof of Service,” will be required. This can be from military documentation or in the form of a redacted copy of the member’s discharge, typically a Form DD-214. Such proof must show that the Compatriot served, or is serving, honorably in: (1) the armed forces of the United States, (2) the military forces of a country allied with the United States, or (3) a United Nations Peace Keeping Force. War Service will be documented in the DD-214.
Send the above items to our Chapter President: president@sarsandiego.org
