Compatriot Grave Marking Project

June 15, 2025

Compatriot Grave Marking is conducted in a similar manner to last year’s highly successful Patriot Grave Marking ceremonies except we are honoring former members.

We have identified the final resting place for at least 70 members that have passed.  Similar to the Patriot Grave Marking Medal we can only preform ceremonies for 5 former members at a cemetery before moving to another cemetery.  The likely first locations will be Ft. Rosecrans, Miramar and El Camino in Sorrento Valley or the old Mt. Hope Cemetery.  The Mt Hope has a number of very early Chapter members such as Daniel Cleveland, William Mossholder and George Marston.

The Compatriot Grave Marking medal is similar in appearance to the Patriot Grave Marking medal and the requirements are the same (meaning you need to participate in 15 ceremonies to earn the medal).  We will organize the first of a number of ceremonies similar to last year so you can earn the medal in one weekend.  We have identified enough that a member could earn an additional three oak leaf clusters in the future for the medal.
