Blockbuster May Meeting

May 18, 2024

Our May 18th meeting was excellent!   We had a nice turnout from the House of Spain and two new members to induct.  We were also had surprise guests of the Honorary Consul of Spain for San Diego, Rosauara Picasso and her husband Larry Morrow.

Dennis Carlos as Bernardo de Galvez.

Dennis Carlos was presented our Chapters Certificate of Appreciation.

Matthew Hansing (center) inducted by Chapter President Jim McAdory (left) and pinned by Color Guard Commander Duncan Campbell.

Don Williams (center) inducted by Chapter President Jim McAdory (left) and pinned by Color Guard Commander Duncan Campbell.

We enjoyed an amazing program prepared by Dennis Carlos with a reenactment of Bernardo de Galvez.  Galvez led the Spanish Navy and Army in the capture of British positions along the east side of the Mississippi river along with the capture of the seaports of Mobile and Pensacola.  He also led the organizing of the fund raising effort to fund the French Navy at the sea battle in Chesapeake Bay which led to the surrender of the British forces at Yorktown.

Claudine Moore, our Chapter’s fifer, gave an excellent and well prepared America250 presentation on Juan Peralta who served with Galvez in New Orleans and Mobile.  Claudine, was recently accepted into DAR based on her relationship to Peralta and she is the first person to qualify him in DAR (and SAR through a cousin).

We inducted two new members, Matthew Hansing who was also our Chapter’s Sea Scout winner and placed 3rd at the California state judging.  Don Williams was also inducted.  Don was accepted by SAR quite sometime ago but this was his first opportunity to attend another meeting since acceptance.  Welcome!

Duncan Campbell was awarded the Silver Henry Knox medal by CASSAR for his leadership on the George Washington Birthday Dinner.  He also accepted the CASSAR Outstanding Color Guard award and flag streamer and the Outstanding Chapter award.  These are much deserved.

We had a great turnout with 37 signed up but 11 dropped or had to leave early or simply could not attend leaving us with 26 in the room.
