The San Diego Chapter held its annual George Washington Birthday Dinner at the Green Dragon Tavern and Museum in Carlsbad, CA on February 24th. A larger than anticipated crowd prompted the venue to open a second adjoining room to handle the turnout of 80 guests. On hand was our President General, John Dodd, California Society President Jim Klingler, California Society Vice President-South John Ferris. Kent Gregory, Chairman of the S.A.R. Museum Board, provided our keynote address on the Art and Artifacts of the George Washington era. Joining our SAR state and national officers were the President of the San Diego Chapter, Jim McAdory and his wife Judy, CA State Society of DAR Corresponding Secretary Kristen Blackburn-Kaufman, California Society CAR President Sophia Kaufman and her husband Jordon and two CAR members.
The program kicked off with a three round musket volley outside the venue and the musket team and the Color Guard marched into the venue with the accompaniment of the San Diego Chapter’s drummer and fifer, Gene and Claudine Moore. After the posting of the colors Gene and Claudine performed the National Anthem.
We enjoyed a significant turnout of DAR members who conducted a great door prize drawing and silent auction with the proceeds donated to our Chapter to help cover the cost of the event. Of particular note is the leadership of Brenda Kaesler, Regent of the Linares Chapter who organized the drawing with the assistance Michele Johnson, Regent of the San Diego Chapter, Terri Kidd, Regent of the La Jolla Chapter and Jennifer Halter, Regent of the Rincon Del Diablo.
Brenda Kaesler presented a DAR Certificate of Appreciation and Certificate of Recognition from Senator Brian Jones to Chapter members Michael Hirman, Duncan Campbell, Gene Moore and Jim McAdory for their efforts supporting the Boston Tea Part Reenactment in December.
Chapter Color Guard Commander presented awards to DAR members for their support of our activities. The Martha Washington medal to DAR members Brenda Kaesler, Terri Kidd and AnnaLisa Lauer-Hasing for their efforts on the Boston Tea Party reenactment. The America 250 Bronze medals to
Chapter President, Jim McAdory, presented a Certificate Appreciation to Tyler Jones of Endependence Financial for his sponsorship of the 2023 and 2024 dinner.
