“I have the very sorrowful duty to report to you that our CHAPLAIN GENERAL DWIGHT ELAM has passed away into the Lord’s presence. Chaplain General Elam had been admitted to the hospital and appeared to be improving, however on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, he died in the hospital. I spoke with Dwight’s wife today and thus far no cause of death is known for certain. I will let you know if and when that information becomes available.
Chaplain General Dwight Elam’s funeral will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 4242 Taylor Road, Punta Gorda, Florida.
Dwight is survived by his wife Becky, two children: Scott and Christie, and four grandchildren.
Dwight was serving his second term as Chaplain General. He thoroughly enjoyed serving in the SAR and his presence will be sorely missed. I encourage you to pray for that church that must now find a new pastor.
