November Meeting Report

November 18, 2023

Vietnam Veterans awards (L-R), Michelle Johnson, Kathleen Winchester, Stan de Long, Jim McAdory, John Green, Gary Ely, Gary Newton, James Helt, Ted Parsons, Dick Mudgett and Rob Welch.  The awards were presented by DAR to our members.

We held our last meeting of 2023 at the beautiful Coronado Yacht Club. The theme of the meeting was “honoring our veterans” and we had the largest turnout in years with 52 in the room. We were joined by Kathleen Winchester and Michelle Johnson, members of DAR, who presented certificates, pins and challenge coins to our Vietnam era veterans.

We also had War Service certificates and medals for members James Helt, Joe Miller, Jesse Campbell, George
Parsons, Duncan Campbell, Nicholas Hoffman and Steve Modregon.  Also presented were Military Service Certificates and Medals to George Brewster, Mark Goodman and Rev. Dr De Long.

Vietnam veterans were recognized by DAR with certificates, pins and challenge coins.

Our Chapter’s First Vice President, George Brewster gave a presentation on his time in Tel Aviv when the Hamas attacks
occurred and the harrowing journey to Jordan.  Our guest speaker was CDR John R. Pedrotty, USN (Ret.) who gave a presentation on “Somalia 1994, Operation Restore Hope; A Flight Surgeon’s Perspective”.

We presented Bronze America 250 awards to James Helt and Kathleen Winchester and Silver America 250 awards to Gary and Judy Newton, Skip Cox and Alan Winters.

We also inducted a new member, Dr. Thomas Herrinton.

It was an excellent meeting due in large part to the efforts of Rob Welch who began working on this program in early summer.
