Unlike Ancestry this app will build your family tree with only minimal information needed from you, typically just one parent. On a computer there is a similar program named Family Search, both are a free service from Ancestry. The programs will search several public genealogy databases to link you to your ancestors. Like Ancestry, the information itself should not be taken as absolutely factual however in checking the information against know and proven relationships in America it does seem to be quite accurate.
You will need to setup a free account to get started.
There is a feature in the phone app (Family Tree) that lets you find “relatives around me” which was a big hit at CASSAR’s meeting in April. Several SDSAR members have recently found they are distant cousins.
When you search for this phone app look for the logo shown here as there are quite a few apps that seem to have almost the same name. Once you locate and install the app enter your basic information and one of your parents’ information. The app will then attempt to locate your other parent which you will need to confirm but after that it finds the links automatically. Occasionally you may need to add an ancestor so that the app can continue filling in a family line.
At our June BBQ we can have everyone launch the app and click the find nearby relatives and see how many relationships will emerge.
