The San Diego Chapter held it last meeting of 2022 at the Green Dragon Tavern and Museum on November 12. There was a nice turnout with 27 in attendance include three whose SAR application is in process at CASSAR or NSSAR. The room was buzzing with conversations as the gathering enjoyed an expanded pre-meeting social time.
Our featured speaker was Charles E. Frye via a Zoom session. Charles is a author, geographer, cartographer, information scientist, and U.S. Army veteran. As he learned of Isaac Frye’s story, he applied his skills to design an approach to use geographic information systems to organize and document historical research projects. This supplied the skeleton for the book “The War has Begun”, the first of four books in the Duty in the Call of Liberty series.
Unfortunately his presentation was marred by an inconsistent internet connection, hopefully we have him return in person at a future meeting as his presentation was excellent.
Jim McAdory gave an America250 Minute presentation on the Battle at Moore’s Creek Bridge in February 1776.
Two existing members were awarded their Member Certificate, SAR Rosette and Chapter Pin. Alan Winters and Lynn Farrar have been members for over a year but were never formally recognized during the Covid period.
Color Guard Commander, Duncan Campbell, received a SAR flag streamer on behalf of our Chapter for his participation in the Grave Marking Ceremony of Col. Jean François Hamtramck in Hamtramck, Michigan. Duncan is a dual member of the Michigan Society and was asked to participate in the event.
