It only happens once a year!
The annual Massing of the Colors took place on Saturday, October 15 in Old Town. We had five San Diego Chapter Color Guard and four Fallbrook Eagle Chapter Color Guard members which made a nice showing for SAR at this event.
In addition to SAR Color Guard there were Color Guard units from Scout troops, ROTC units as well as active duty military. The were joined by a sizable crowd of visitors for the program.
The Marine Corp Recruit Depot band provided music for the event and the keynote speaker was Honorable M. Janet Chin.
This traditional ceremony honors the flag of the United States of America and those living and deceased who have gallantly struggled to preserve it and our freedoms. The ceremony is also designed to instill and foster patriotism and love-of-country. The event was organized by The San Diego Chapter of The Military Order of the World Wars which traces their roots to General of the Armies, John J. Pershing.
Leading the event was Ted Parsons whose SAR application was forwarded to NSSAR the day before! We look forward to Ted joining our Chapter in the coming months.
