Compatriot Fred Hall led a small group of San Diego Chapter members on a tour of the historic Mission San Diego de Alcala. The mission was first established in 1769 by Fr. Junipero Serra at the Presidio near present day Old Town but was moved to it’s current location in 1774. The original mission was destroyed by fire in 1775 and rebuilt only to be destroyed by again by an earthquake in 1803 and rebuilt again. In 1931 the Mission was rebuilt and restored and in 1950 the front of the church was restored. Compatriot Hall’s tour was both informative and entertaining, we urge anyone that has not visited the Mission to visit and take a tour guided by one of the Docents.
