Harini Akurathi of the Scripps Ranch High School was presented our Chapter’s Junior ROTC Enhanced award for 2023 by our Sargent-at-Arms, Gary Newton. The award ceremony was conducted on April 3 at the Scripps Ranch High School’s ROTC facility in front of an assembly of JROTC students.
Compatriot Gary Newton (left) told the audience that the judges were unanimous in their selection of her submission. Compatriot Jim McAdory (below-right), Chapter Treasurer, presented Harini with a check for $250 as well.
Her application was also forwarded to the California Society, and we were recently
informed that she had also won at the state level. Brandon Villardi, CASSAR Color Guard Commander and CASSAR JROTC /ROTC Chairman sent us this message;
“It is my honor to announce this year’s 2022-2023 CASSAR JROTC Enhanced Awardee is Cadet Harini “Hilary” Akurathi nominated by the San Diego Chapter”.
Harini and her parents have also been invited to attend the State Society’s “Youth Awards” luncheon on April 15th at the Costa Mesa Hilton where she will be presented the CASSAR award.
This is the third year that either a Sea Cadet or JROTC representing our Chapter has won a State level award.
Scripps Ranch High School has a very active JROTC (Air Force) group with 68 students in the program. They recently won the Air Force Association’s National Cybersecurity JROTC competition as part of the Associations Cyberpatriot program.
